Waxman Hearing To Examine Ozone Decision

The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform chaired by Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) will hold an oversight hearing on May 20, 2008 to examine the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) new ozone standards.

The Committee has issued a subpoena to compel the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to provide documents relating to EPA’s recent decision to establish ozone air quality standards that disregarded the recommendations of EPA staff and EPA’s independent scientific review committee.

The Committee is expected to hear testimony from EPA Administrator Steven Johnson, OMB Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs Administrator Susan Dudley, and Dr. Rogene Henderson, Chair of the EPA Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC). Also testifying will be Michael Goo, Climate Legislative Director of the Natural Resources Defense Council. A copy of his statement is posted here. Testimony of Michael Goo, NRDC
