ALA and ED Weigh in on Coarse Particle Standards, 8-5-05

Environmental Defense and the American Lung Association have filed comments with EPA and the Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC) that raise concerns about the limited scope of an “urban-only” coarse particle standard.

CASAC will take up the issue at an August 11, 2005 teleconference to discuss the recommendations for a coarse particle standard in the final EPA Staff Paper issued June 30, 2005.

The comments cite recent health studies that bolster the case for action to control coarse particles and raise concerns that the proposed urban-only coarse particle standard could leave millions of Americans unprotected.

Copies of the comments are attached.
