ALA Offers Comments on Ozone Health Assessment Plan
The American Lung Association has filed detailed comments with EPA suggesting several ways that EPA’s draft methodology for the ozone risk assessment could be broadened.
The risk assessment will be included in a Staff Paper on the review of the air quality standards for ozone. EPA will publish a first draft Staff Paper in September 2005, and a second draft in April 2006.
The comments raise concerns about the exposure analysis, the geographic scope of the analysis, the need to include additional health endpoints, and the risk function for short-term mortality. In addition, the comments raise concerns about the use of hypothetical thresholds that have no scientific basis.
