California Supports Stringent Federal Standards, 3-30-05
The State of California submitted comments to EPA on the second draft Staff Paper on PM that urged adoption of stringent standards for PM2.5 and PM10-2.5.
“Considering the considerable public health impacts that could be avoided, includng premature death, cardiovascular disease, and childhood asthma, setting the standards at the low end of the range is certainly warranted,” wrote Catherine Witherspoon, Executive Officer of the Air Resources Board, and Joen E. Denton, Ph.D., Director of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, in comments to EPA.
The detailed written comments are attached.
