ALA Statement to AQAC Supporting Proposed California Ozone Standards to California

In testimony for the California Air Quality Advisory Committee (AQAC) on January 12, 2005, the American Lung Association urged the committee to fully endorse the recommendations of a staff report to establish a new 8-hour average air quality standard for ozone.

“Adoption of an 8-hour average California Ambient Air Quality Standard for ozone is a long overdue and critically needed measure to protect the health of California residents, especially the state’s infants, children, and adolescents,” stated Deborah Shprentz, consultant to the American Lung Association.

The statement cites compelling public health evidence favoring establishment of a new 8-hour average standard for ozone at 0.070 ppm and retention the 1-hour average standard for ozone at 0.09 ppm, as recommended in the ARB/OEHHA staff report.

A copy of the statement is attached.
