2003 Air Pollution Health Studies of Note

In 2003, hundreds of new studies of the health effects of air pollution were published in medical journals.

The studies reported on the impacts of common air pollutants such as ozone and particulate matter on adverse birth outcomes, and on the health of infants, children and the elderly. Studies reported on the impact of air pollution on cardiovascular disease and on respiratory health, including studies examining new health endpoints such as strokes and SARS. Several new intervention studies demonstrated the benefits of air pollution controls.

Periodically, the American Lung Association summarizes selected studies from current research.
