City of Denver Supports Tougher Daily PM2.5 Standard

“The current fine particle standard of 65 micrograms per cubic meter does not protect Denver area residents from the acute health effects of PM2.5 and does not require any reduction in fine particle emissions in the Denver region,” states a letter to EPA from the City and County of Denver’s Department of Environmental Health.

“Despite the Denver metro area’s compliance with the fine particle NAAQS, there remains an unaccptable level of unregulated (residual) health risk,” continues the September 27, 2001 letter.
